The U.S. Department of State recently updated their eligibility requirements for nonimmigrant visa interview waivers, meaning more applicants may now obtain their visas without attending an interview.
According to the new guidelines, individuals applying for non-immigrant visas, including those applying for student visas, may be eligible for a visa interview waiver if they previously issued a non-immigrant visa (excluding B visas) and are applying within 48 months of the expiration of their last visa. Applicants will still need to satisfy other eligibility requirements, such as applying from their country of nationality and proving that they have never been denied a visa in the past.
“Consular officers may still require in-person interviews on a case-by-case basis or because of local conditions. We encourage applicants to check embassy and consulate websites for more detailed information about visa application requirements and procedures, and to learn more about the embassy’s operating status and services,” the State Department said in an official statement.
The changes in visa waiver eligibility requirements are effective from January 1, 2024. You can learn more about U.S. visa interviews in Boundless’ guide.
