K-2 Visas

Looking to immigrate from Pakistan with your children? If you’re going the K-1 visa route, the K-2 visa may be a good option for your family. The K-2 visa can be used by the children of a K-1 fiancé visa holder to enter the United States and immigrate with their parent at the same time.

Special Considerations

While the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad is accepting applications for most immigrant and non-immigrant visa categories, they are not, in most cases, permitted to process Afghan Special Immigrant Visas (SIV). This goes for the U.S. Consulates in Lahore, Karachi, and Peshawar, as well. Certain applicants may, however, be eligible for an SIV.

If applicants need to contact the National Visa Center (NVC) about an ongoing SIV case, they can send an email to AfghanSIVapplication@state.gov or call +1-603-334-0888 (Monday through Friday). If applicants have already received approval for Form I-360, they can send an email to NVCSIV@state.gov. If applicants want to transfer their case to an Embassy or Consulate outside of Afghanistan, they can read more about the process on the U.S. Department of State’s website.

The U.S. Embassy in Islamabad is now conducting a small number of immigrant (and non-immigrant) visa interviews and hopes to return to their normal day-to-day operations as soon as possible. Many applicants have already paid the visa application processing fee but have not been scheduled for an interview. For this reason, the validity period for all visa processing payments has been extended to September 30, 2023. If applicants need to travel to the United States for emergency reasons, they may be eligible to obtain an Expedited Appointment. The U.S. Embassy in Islamabad has provided guidance for those interested in this option.

In general, once an immigrant visa is approved, the Embassy will tell the applicant how to retrieve their passport and visa. Applicants should check for any errors on their new visa, once received. If they find an error, they should contact the Embassy immediately. Applicants should read through the “After the Interview” section on the State Department’s website, where they’ll learn more about the process of entering the United States.
